Why should I go?
What better way to spend a summer evening than listening to live music while enjoying a cool ocean breeze, a cocktail, and maybe some first-class contemporary art? If that all sounds like fun to you, head over to the ICA later today for this week’s installment of Harborwalk Sounds: Berklee College of Music at the ICA, a free outdoor summer concert series featuring performances by some of Boston’s best up-and-coming musicians. The concerts take place each Thursday night through August 26.
The series features current students and recent alum from Berklee, which has partnered with the ICA for the concert series. Tonight’s concert features a performance by Mom Rock, a local rock band that will play a stripped-down acoustic set.
Mom Rock musicians Curtis Heimburger and Josh Polack just completed their third year at Berklee. The two friends, who bonded over their mutual affection for Weezer, say their sound is inspired by such bands as Cage the Elephant, Bleachers, and Catfish and the Bottlemen. They began making a name for themselves in 2019, gaining over two million streams and 350,000 listeners on Spotify while working the DIY music scene in Boston. Since then, they’ve earned a reputation for their eclectic songs and getups. They’ve earned spots at several music festivals, including Osheaga, Music Midtown, and the Rock Boat, and plan to release a new EP this summer.
If you can’t make tonight’s concert in person, Harborwalk Sounds will also stream on Vimeo from 6 to 7 pm. For those who do come in person, the concert series coincides with ICA Free Thursday Night, where you can tour the museum’s special exhibitions and permanent collection for free, making for an unforgettable evening of music and art.
