Eight BU Athletics Events You Should Be Sure to Catch during the Remainder of the Fall Semester

Eight Can’t-Miss BU Athletics Events This Semester
You can’t see every game, but make sure to see these
With fall foliage starting to peak and the fall sports seasons in swing, here are eight games, matches, or events from the BU Athletics universe that you should put in your calendar now.
Soc’toberfest: Soccer doubleheader
When and where: Saturday, October 5, 1 and 4 pm, Nickerson Field
The scoop: It’s a two-game Patriot League soccer day at Nickerson Field. The women host Loyola at 1 pm, followed by the men against Colgate at 4 pm. Both squads will be in the heat of their league slates.
BU men’s hockey vs. Northern Michigan
When and where: Friday, October 18, 7:30 pm, Agganis Arena
The scoop: Terrier men’s hockey hosts Northern Michigan twice over the home opener weekend. Albie O’Connell (CAS’99) begins his second season as head coach, and Terrier fans can get a look at newly minted captain Patrick Curry (SHA’20) and the rest of the team.
BU field hockey vs. American
When and where: Saturday, October 19, noon, New Balance Field
The scoop: Three of the past four Patriot League field hockey championship games have come between the Terriers and the Eagles. The last six contests between these teams have been decided by one-goal margins.
Head of the Charles
When and where: Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20, Charles River
The scoop: Maybe the biggest rowing event in America, the Head of the Charles Regatta has boats with rowers of all ages and from around the world. BU will race a variety of boats against a swath of colleges from every part of the country, while thousands of cheering spectators line both sides of the Charles and its bridges. This is a signature Boston sporting event every fall.

BU men’s basketball vs. Northeastern
When nd where: Tuesday, November 5, 7 pm, Case Gym
The scoop: For the 10th straight year, in what’s become a rite of passage for basketball season, the Terriers play the Huskies in their season opener. Last season’s contest was a thriller on the road, with BU stealing a 77-74 win over the eventual NCAA Tournament–bound Huskies. The game marks the hopeful return of sophomore Walter Whyte (CGS’19, CAS’21), who missed the entire last season because of injury. Whyte was a Patriot League All-Rookie Team pick as a freshman.
BU women’s basketball vs. Marist
When and where: Friday, November 8, 6 pm, Case Gym
The scoop: The much-improved Terrier women’s basketball team starts the season at home against one of the country’s best mid-major basketball programs. Coach Marisa Moseley (CAS’04) starts her second season at the helm after a 15-14 debut (11-7 in conference play), and experienced players Nia Irving (Sargent’20), Katie Nelson (CGS’19, Questrom’21), and Riley Childs (CGS’20) should make the season exciting.
Terrier Invitational
When and where: Friday, November 22, to Sunday, November 24, BU Aquatics Center Competition Pool
The scoop: An important swim meet for both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams is being held over the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. Local and conference teams will compete.
BU women’s ice hockey vs. Boston College
When and where: Friday, December 6, 7 pm, Walter Brown Arena
The scoop: Don’t we all love a little BU vs. BC rivalry? The Terriers, 2019 Women’s Beanpot Tournament champions, host the first game of a pivotal home-and-home weekend with the Eagles. The Terriers won both games of the regular season series last year and will look to repeat that success.
