Points of Departure: A Place to Fit In
Christine Park (SMG’14)
When Christine Park (SMG’14) arrived at BU, she was “looking for a place to fit in.” She found that place in Mustard Seed, BU’s Christian a cappella group, where she could combine her love of music and her religious faith. Singing with the group let Park express her faith in ways that didn’t make her non-Christian friends feel awkward or uncomfortable. “Being able to sing out my faith, dance through my performances, and let my facial expressions speak for themselves has allowed me to share that part of my life with my friends,” she says.
Park and fellow seniors were honored by Mustard Seed at the end of their final concert with a rendition of “The Lord Bless You and Keep You,” a hymn the group typically uses to close each performance. It was a poignant and heartfelt way to bid farewell to a group of friends. Park is grateful to BU and to Mustard Seed, which have given her “a chance to be dedicated to something that I’m passionate about.”
