It’s officially autumn in Boston. It’s time to enjoy the fall foliage and the pumpkin spice scent floating through the air. Here is a list of on- and off-campus events that’ll let you soak up the fall season to the fullest. Among them: free community dance classes and the opening of Boston University Symphony Orchestra’s 2026-2027 season.

Let’s Dance Boston

Sign up for a free community dance lesson and enjoy a night of live music and dance. Each of the five nights begins with a free 45-minute dance lesson taught by a local dance instructor before the floor is all yours for the remainder of the evening. No previous dance experience is required. And each night features a different dance style, ranging from salsa to soul line dancing. Online RSVP is encouraged but not required.

Through Sunday, September 27. The event starts at 6 pm all nights except for Sunday at 3 pm, Rose Kennedy Greenway, Dewey Square Park, Boston.

Free Puzzle Party at Harvard Museum of Natural History

For fans of puzzles, escape rooms, or just a fun adventure, the Harvard Museum of Natural History is hosting a free puzzle night this Thursday. Guests will solve a series of lighthearted and fun puzzles around the museum that will “test your powers of deduction and close looking.” The activity is best enjoyed in groups of two to five, and takes about an hour to complete. If you’re not in the mood for a brain teaser, feel free to roam the museum galleries at your own leisure. There are also alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available to purchase; don’t forget your ID.

Thursday, September 24, 5 to 9 pm, Harvard Museum of Natural History. This event is free and open to the public

Boston University Symphony Orchestra’s Changing Tides

The BU Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 2026-2027 season with Changing Tides, their first concert of the season, at the Tsai Performance Center this Friday. The lineup includes Ethel Smyth’s On the Cliffs of Cornwall, Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures joined by mezzo-soprano Lindsey Weissman (CFA’27), and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. The program celebrates the “power of nature and human resilience.”

Friday, September 25, 7:30 to 9 pm, Tsai Performance Center. This event is free and open to the public.
