YouSpeak: Do You Know How to Dance?
Pondering what even qualifies as dancing these days
ABC’s hit reality show Dancing with the Stars launches its 16th season tonight with a two-hour premiere. Once television’s top-rated program, Dancing has taken a ratings hit the past few years, but nearly 17 million viewers tuned in for last season’s finale. And producers are hoping a new roster of stars—among them The Bachelor’s Sean Lowe, Olympic Gold medal winners Aly Raisman and Dorothy Hamill, comedians D. L. Hughley and Andy Dick, and NFL wide receiver Jacoby Jones—will help restore its luster.
The recent “Harlem Shake” meme got everyone talking about whether its gyrations count as dancing. Ditto Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which inspired even more knockoffs.
What constitutes dancing? Does grinding count? What are the dos and don’ts on the dance floor? With those questions in mind, this week’s “YouSpeak” asks: “Do you know how to dance?”
“YouSpeak” typically appears each Monday.
