Women’s Soccer Defends Title Sunday
America East Tournament Game at Nickerson

After sweeping the major America East annual awards, the Boston University women’s soccer team is focusing on Sunday, October 31, when the Terriers will play in the semifinals of the America East Tournament, at Nickerson Field at 1 p.m. BU—the top-ranked team in the tournament—will host Albany.
The Terriers swept the 2010 America East women’s soccer awards, announced Wednesday: Jessica Luscinski (SAR’12) earned Striker of the Year, Shauna Kelleher (COM’11) was named Midfielder of the Year, and Corie Halasz (SAR’11) received Defender of the Year, the fourth consecutive BU win in that category. Also taking home hardware were the goalkeeping duo of Alice Binns (SAR’12), Goalkeeper of the Year, and Kelly King (CAS’14), Rookie of the Year. Led by head coach Nancy Feldman, the BU coaches were named Coaching Staff of the Year.
In its 16 years as a varsity program, BU’s women’s soccer has won 8 America East championships (7 of the last 10 titles) and is 14-4-2 in America East postseason conference action. The top-seeded, undefeated Terriers have a 10-0-1 mark this season.
The team owes its success not only to its prolific offense, but also its rock-solid defense. The Terriers have outscored opponents 43-10 and won a program-record 11 straight games. During the winning streak, which began September 16 with a 3-0 victory at Harvard, BU has outscored its opponents 32-0, and with one of the nation’s stingiest backlines, now owns the sixth longest shutout streak in NCAA history.
In all, the team has broken records this fall for shutouts in a season (13), longest winning streak (11), and consecutive shutouts (11). Several student-athletes have flourished, among them the offensive tandem of Luscinski and Lisa Kevorkian (COM’12), who disrupted opposing defenses all season long. Kevorkian is currently third in the BU record books for single-season goals (13) and points (31), while Luscinski has moved up, ranking ninth all-time among BU scorers, with 49 career points.
Feldman tested her Terriers early this season with what was arguably the program’s toughest non-conference schedule ever—5 top-25 teams, including Stanford, number two in the preseason and now the nation’s top-ranked team. After going 3-5 in the first month of the season, BU embarked on its historic winning and shutout stretch, which has now lasted 11 games and more than 1,000 minutes.
The BU women’s soccer team faces off against Albany in an America East semifinal match on Sunday, October 31, at 1 p.m. at Nickerson Field. Tickets can be purchased at Nickerson’s gate 2 ticket booth, behind the stands, beginning at noon. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for youth 14 and under, and $2 for any student with an America East ID.
