Walton Wins Women’s 55m Dash
Men's and women's track and field teams compete in Valentine Invitational
Shelby Walton(CGS’10) won the 55-meter dash to highlight action by the Boston Universitywomen’s indoor track and field team at the BU Valentine Invitational onFebruary 13 at the BU Track and Tennis Center. Edwina Clark (SAR’09) finished first among collegians in the long jump, and the Terriers’ 4x400m relay team topped its collegiate competition.
The Terriers are in action again next weekend,defending their conference title at the America East Championship onFriday, February 20, and Saturday, February 21, at the Track and Tennis Center.
Walton posted a season-best 7.09 in the 55m dash to top a field of 79. Erin Catarius (MET’09) (7.22) and Whitney Ford (COM’10) (7.24) also made the finals in the event, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
The 4x400m relay team finished second overall, with a 3:52.36,the best time for a collegiate team, meeting the qualifying standardfor the ECAC Championship.
Clark leaped 5.69m in the long jump to finish second only to Tahari James (SAR’09),who has exhausted her indoor eligibility and is competing unattached,but will return to the Terriers for her final season of outdoor trackthis spring. Alyssa Fanucci (SMG’09) was 10th, with a 5.29m jump.
In the 200m dash, Ford led the Terriers with a 10th-place finish (25.16), Jackie Dim (CGS’10) was 16th (25.35), Amanda Howard (CGS’09) was 33rd (25.95), sophomore Alex Jackson was 37th (26.03), and Fanucci was 75th (26.83) in a field of 162.
Becky Marshburn(CAS’09) finished 10th in the 400m dash, posting a 57.07, and was 19th in the55m hurdles, with an 8.77. Bre Parhiala (CGS’10) was 37th in the hurdles,with a 9.20.
Karly Neveu (CGS’09) tied for fourth in the high jump with a season-best 1.68m mark. In the pole vault, junior Fiona Romeri cleared 3.20m to finish 11th, Aly Rofrano (CAS’12) tied for 14th, with a 3.05m jump, and Adwoa Hanson-Hall (CAS’12) tied for 20th, clearing 2.75m.
Jackson posted a mark of 10.74m to finish 13th in the triple jump. Jen Fleser (SED’11) threw the weight 13.72m to finish 20th.
On the men’s side, Ken Haltom (CAS’11) qualified in the 1,000m run, and Jeff Moreau (CAS’10) and Balint Horvath (SED’12) met the standard in the 800m run. Moreau (1:52.45) and Horvath (1:52.54) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800m run.
Billy Whelan (COM’12) (1:58.66) and Colin Lee (CAS’12) (1:58.84) crossed together in 65th and 66th place, while James Weider (CAS’11) (2:00.51) was 93rd. Haltom also qualified for the ECACs, with a 2:28.97 mark in the 1,000m run, good for 14th place.In the sprints, David Barth (CAS’09) finished 71st in the 55m dash, with a 6.98. In the 200m dash, Max Esposito (COM’10) (22.38) was 31st, freshman Matt Pereira (22.46) was 39th, Kedzie Teller (COM’12) (22.85) was 59th, and Kodjo Wilder (CAS’09) (23.01) was 70th. Mark Mazzochette (ENG’10) finished 70th in the 400m dash, with a 50.92.
Pereira also cleared 1.83m in the high jump to tie for 11th in thatevent; Wilder leaped 6.75m to finish seventh in the long jump.
Jason Nardella (SMG’09) placed sixth in the 55m hurdles, posting his best time, 7.82, in the preliminaries.
In the pole vault, Justin Maes (CGS’10) cleared 4.11m, for 12th place, and Jordan Cumper (ENG’10) came in 17th, with a mark of 3.81m.
Dan Withrow (COM’11) was the Terriers’ only entrant in the cage, reaching 15.43m, to finish sixth in the shot put.
