Alums Fly Home for the Winter(fest)
2009 celebration includes classes, cooking, and Terrier sports
The best of BU — from Aristophanes lectures to yoga stretches — will be on full display this weekend as the University community gathers for Winterfest 2009, the fourth annual campus celebration for BU alumni and friends. Events include cooking classes, an ice-sculpting contest, hip-hop dance workshops — and, of course, lots of Terrier sports, including matches of the top-ranked men’s ice hockey team and the conference-leading women’s basketball team.
Nearly 400 people have registered for the weekend’s events, which include a Terrier Tailgate party at the Fitness and Recreation Center and open skating at Walter Brown Arena. The weekend also marks the 62nd Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony, to be held tonight, February 27, at the School of Management. This year’s recipients are Timothy P. Cahill (CAS’81), the Massachusetts state treasurer; Allison J. Davis (CGS’73, COM’75), the vice president and director of public relations at the Jackie Robinson Foundation; and Arnold M. Katz (COM’62), the founding president of Brokerage Concepts. The Young Alumni Award recipient is Bridget E. Mooney (CAS’05), a board member of Thrive, a Boston-area nonprofit that serves breast cancer patients under the age of 40.
Registration packets can be picked up at the Fitness and Recreation Center, 915 Commonwealth Ave., on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and at the Open Skate at Walter Brown Arena on Sunday from noon to 1:45 p.m. For a complete list of Winterfest events, click here.
