The Dear Abbeys, Boston University’s premier all-male a cappella group, will hold a Valentine’s Day concert tonight at 8:30 p.m. at BU Central, in the George Sherman Union, with opening guests the Barbershop Sweethearts. Dessert will be served by candlelight at the show, which is free and open to the public.
Since their founding in 1992, the Abbeys have gained a reputation in the Boston area for their energetic live performances, which blend musical precision with a lighthearted stage presence that can get downright goofy.
In addition to regular appearances at BU and throughout Boston, the Dear Abbeys have traveled far and wide, singing in stadiums, on street corners, and many places in between. They have performed in Illinois to benefit Tourette’s syndrome research, sung the national anthem at Boston Bruins and Red Sox games, and toured the Hawaiian Islands. In 2005, they won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in New York City. Most recently, they traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska, and the San Francisco Bay Area, where they held workshops for local public school choir programs.
