Two MED Profs Given Citations
This November, National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, Robert Green and Robert Stern of the School of Medicine shared their knowledge about the disease with the public, continuing their work to advance study in the Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Research Program (ADCRP). On Wednesday, November 28, Boston City Councilor At-Large Michael F. Flaherty presented the ADCRP codirectors with a citation recognizing their contributions to fighting the disease.
Stern, a MED associate professor of neurology and ADCRP director of neuropsychology, researches the role of thyroid functioning in Alzheimer’s disease and the development and validation of a cognitive functions test, with additional research into caregiver intervention projects. Green, a MED professor of neurology, genetics, and epidemiology, researches early and preclinical detection and the treatment and prevention of the disease.
Both researchers were featured in “Improving the Lives of Patients and Families with Alzheimer’s Disease,” an episode of the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind series produced by the Information Television Network. The episode, which was aired on PBS stations nationwide throughout the month, examines ways to help Alzheimer’s patients and their families cope with the changes that occur with diagnosis of the degenerative brain disease.
