SHA Dean Honored as Outstanding Educator
SHA Dean James T. Stamas receives Outstanding U.S. Educator award.
James T. Stamas, dean of the School of Hospitality Administration, may not teach in a classroom, but he is still driven to provide a challenging and high-quality education to SHA students. This summer, the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute acknowledged his work with its annual 2007 Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding U.S. Educator.
“Stamas has tirelessly promoted standards of academic excellence and professionalism for the future employees and leaders of the hospitality industry,” according to the organization. He was also recognized for helping SHA become a BU college in its own right, and no longer part of Metropolitan College.
Although he is pleased to receive the honor, Stamas believes the award recognizes the work of the entire school. “The recognition, to me, reflects the strength of our curriculum, our faculty, and the quality of our students,” he says.
The American Hotel and Lodging Association’s (AH&LA) nonprofit Educational Institute offers hospitality education, training, and certification. “SHA is a member of the AH&LA primarily as a way to stay attuned to what the industry is doing and its trends,” Stamas says.
