PRC auction photos going, going…
Benefit shows work of 150 photographers
A scene of geese sleeping on an iced-over Charles River reflecting city lights might be perfect living room art, while a protester’s face, with a dollar bill taped over her mouth, at George Bush’s 2001 presidential inauguration might fit better in a hallway. With 200 photographs by more than 150 artists, the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) Benefit Auction on Thursday, October 5, has something to suit everyone’s taste.
This annual event is the PRC’s largest fundraiser of the year and begins with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction at 7:30 p.m., at BU’s 808 Gallery. The photos can be previewed online and free auction catalogues are available at the PRC, which is located at 832 Commonwealth Ave. Absentee bids will be accepted by e-mail, mail, and telephone until 5 p.m. on October 5. The auctioneer is Stuart Whitehurst, vice president and director of rare books and manuscripts for the Boston auction house Skinner, Inc.
The $50 admission includes a catalogue, a bidding paddle, a light buffet, and parking (with advance reservations). With the artwork’s estimated values ranging from $50 to $5,000, the auction offers a photo for almost any budget.
