Winning the war against the Freshman 15

Attention freshmen: are the clothes you brought to college starting to feel a little snug? If so, you’re not alone. Weight gain in the first year of college is so common that it was long ago dubbed “the Freshman 15.”
The extra pounds can sneak up on you, but their origins are far from mysterious. Temptation is everywhere — the brownies from home, the post-midnight pizza, the unlimited supply of sugar cereal. And for the first time in your life, nobody is across the dinner table urging you to eat your vegetables. That’s where we come in. With the help of aspiring fitness guru and gourmand Zack Poitras (CAS’08), fresh from his adventures on the MBTA, BU Today offers up some pointers on healthy eating.
Poitras is a member of Slow Children at Play, a BU sketch comedy troupe.
Vote on whether or not the Freshman 15 is a problem.
