Couple wins treasure hunt
Jennifer Desousa (CAS’07) and Peter Jorgensen (CAS’06) use their campus knowledge to win a BU treasure hunt.
Recent detective work by Jennifer Desousa (CAS’07) and Peter Jorgensen (CAS’06) has paid off — the dynamic duo snagged the first-place award at the Boston University Treasure Hunt on September 9.
The scavenger hunt, sponsored by the Student Activities Office and the Residence Hall Association, required participants to race around campus and find answers to obscure questions about University facilities, such as “How many floors does Danielsen Hall have?” Although they had 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the hunt, Desousa and Jorgensen found the answers to all 29 questions in just over an hour.
“I’d say the best part of it for me was spending time with Jen and working toward a common goal,” says Jorgensen. Most groups had four students tracking down the answers, which made the winners even prouder of their accomplishment, according to Jorgensen. “We’ve been together for three years, but it’s still fun just to go out and spend an afternoon doing something together … especially with Jen — she’s the queen of games.”
Desousa says she was eager to participate because she wanted to know more about her campus surroundings. “I thought it would be fun to explore the campus,” she says. “A lot of times you can walk by a plaque or statue without ever really reading it or understanding its significance.”
The first-place winners each received a $75 gift certificate to Best Buy. The second-place team split a $150 Best Buy gift certificate, and other prizes were raffled off to all treasure hunters. Desousa and Jorgensen say they haven’t decided yet what they will get with their prize money. “A lot of times the most fun is just walking around thinking of things you could buy,” Jorgensen says.
