Since BU’s pedigree is traced to Oxford University, two stones from the English university form the cornerstone of Marsh Chapel. Within the cornerstone is a time capsule that contains a King James Bible, a Book of Common Prayer, Thomas à Kempis’ The Imitation of Christ, donated by Archbishop Richard Cushing, the archbishop of Boston, the Jewish standard Book of Prayer, the Methodist Book of Discipline and a Methodist hymnal, University documents, The American Canon by former BU President Daniel L. Marsh (STH’08, Hon.’53), and copies of various religious journals and newspapers printed on the day the stone was laid in 1949.
