Thomas Mickey (COM’73), a lecturer at the College of Communication, recently received the Haupt Fellowship from the Horticultural Division of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The grant, given to only one recipient per year, will enable him to research how 19th-century seed vendors advertised and promoted their garden products, especially through seed catalogs. Mickey hopes that his research will help historians understand how railroad and postal systems connected people and spread ideas.
