About

Growing up in Lebanon, I became interested in moments and spaces that bring people together in a sectarian society. My fieldwork brought me back to Lebanon to explore one such place, the Lebanon Mountain Trail, a 470km walking trail that brings hikers across the length of the country and into the homes of Muslim, Druze, and Christian hosts. My dissertation follows the journeys of Lebanese hikers across the LMT and into subjunctive worlds generated by the trail, Lebanons of elsewhere and otherwise, where hikers reimagine their connections to the nation and one another, cultivate newfound senses of belonging, and work together to maintain the fragile bubble of a shared space.
