About

Haylee is an Indigenous centered anthropological archaeologist specializing in zooarchaeology. She is currently researching the changing usage of fur-bearing mammals by Indigenous peoples in Maine throughout the North American fur trade. She plans to analyze the remains of animal bones from pre- and post-contact Wabanaki sites to better understand how Wabanaki people would have adapted and altered their sustenance and cultural practices in the face of changes brought about by European settlement. She also aims to collaborate with Wabanaki communities and include their perspectives into her research design and practices.

Haylee’s previous research explored the use of domesticated animals on Maryland plantations, as well as working with NAGPRA collections to facilitate the repatriation process. Prior to Boston University, she attended Vassar College (2018-2022) and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Anthropology and Cognitive Science
