Faye Harwell is a biological anthropologist and primatologist in the Department of Anthropology. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in biology from Clark University in Worcester, MA and her Ph.D. from Boston University in 2023. For her dissertation “Investigation of the Life History, Male Bimaturism and Sex Differences of Orangutans,” she examined the body composition of orangutans. In particular, she is interested in the sex differences of muscle and fat mass in orangutans. Additionally, she investigates differences in the life histories of the great apes examining questions like: what is their average age at first birth? How long, on average, do they live for?
