Hi BU! I recently began serving in the National Association of Practicing Anthropologists (NAPA) to help with their new strategy to promote more avenues for anthropologists to practice anthropology. There are many diverse careers which increasingly need the scholarly and holistic perspective we anthropologists bring. Contact me for information about NAPA’s professional mentorship program, for networking and mentorship in pursing jobs from sectors such as applied research, healthcare, marketing, the tech sector, government, and more.
In other news, I’ve continued this year as a Research Scholar at the Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies at George Mason University, outside of Washington, DC. I helped organize a conference there on “Islam and Humanitarianism” last November that included a paper by BU’s own Salwa Tareen. I am revising my manuscript Transformations in Islamic Charity for publication. I’ve also worked at the State Department since 2015 managing a foreign assistance fund for human rights and new technologies. A new project titled Freedom in the Code, for which I’m pursuing funding, is a cross-cultural investigation of internet policy and how governments and global civil society can collaborate to better protect human rights online
