Study Skills Tutoring
What is Study Skills Tutoring?
Succeeding in your academics involves more than just understanding the material well. Skills like time management, test preparation, and organization can help you succeed in your academics and your life. Study Skills Tutoring offers undergraduate students the opportunity to book appointments with a peer Study Coach to help you acquire and hone these skills and to learn and perform better.

What is the difference between Study Skills Tutoring and Academic Coaching?
Undergraduate students are welcome to meet with a staff Academic Coach OR a peer Study Coach. Both peer Study Coaches and ERC staff Academic Coaches can work with students on academic skills, like time management and test preparation. Some students might feel more comfortable going to a peer, while others prefer connecting with ERC staff coaches.
You might think of meeting with a peer Study Coach in a study skills tutoring appointment like having a conversation with a more experienced peer or mentor. They can help you talk things out as you adjust to a new semester or plan for a busy finals season. Having been in your shoes, they can also offer some insider tips into succeeding at BU or in a certain discipline or subject. Sometimes that friendly ear is what you need!
Meeting with a staff Academic Coach is more like meeting with an expert. In addition to offering support on time management and test preparation, our staff Academic Coaches are poised to help you with additional topics, like reading comprehension, managing procrastination and forming new habits, and navigating test anxiety. If you’re facing routine or persistent challenges in your academics, are experiencing academic difficulty, are looking to set up recurring appointments, or have a multitude of outside factors that may be impacting your academic performance, we recommend making an Academic Coaching appointment with an ERC staff member. Graduate students are not eligible to meet with our peer Study Coaches (they are all undergraduate students), so you should book an Academic Coaching appointment with professional staff if you’re a graduate student looking for academic support.
Our study coaches are well trained to help you get connected to ERC professional staff, too, if they feel that your situation might warrant some additional expertise.
