This course examines the biology and psychology of how we hear, listen, and understand the world around us through sound. Topics include foundational acoustics and the physics of sound; anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central auditory system; neural coding and representation of sound; psychoacoustics; binaural and spatial hearing; auditory scene analysis; the perception of speech and music; and the role of hearing in speech communication and its disorders.
