One of the victims killed by blasts at the Boston Marathon on Monday has been identified as a Boston University graduate student.
Lu Lingzi (GRS’14), a graduate student in mathematics and statistics, was one of three friends who watched the race near the finish line. Another of the three students, Danling Zhou (MET’14), was injured, and is in stable condition at Boston Medical Center.
Robert Hill, dean of Marsh Chapel, visited Zhou Monday evening and again yesterday afternoon. He reports that she underwent surgery on Monday and on Tuesday. “She is doing well,” says Hill. “She has her friends around her, and she will soon have family around her.”
The third BU student was unharmed.
The explosions, detonated seconds apart at about 3 p.m. near the finish line on Boylston Street, killed 3 people and injured more than 170. The Boston Globe identified the other two casualties as 8-year-old Martin Richard of Dorchester, Mass., and Krystle Campbell, 29, of Arlington, Mass.
Counseling is available through the Dean of Students Office, from Marsh Chapel chaplains, at Student Health Services (SHS), and at the Sexual Assault Response & Prevention Center (SARP). Chaplains can be reached at 617-353-3560. SHS counselors can be reached at 617-353-3575. SARP can be reached at 617-353-7277. An SHS behavioral medicine provider can be reached at 617-353-3569. The Faculty & Staff Assistance Office is available to provide confidential counseling to faculty, staff, and their families.
In the aftermath of Monday’s tragedy, a Service of Healing will take place this afternoon, Wednesday, April 17, at 5:30 p.m. at Marsh Chapel. All members of the BU community are welcome.
There will also be a gathering to help those who need support and further discussion on Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Burke Room of Agganis Arena. Representatives from Marsh Chapel and staff from Student Health Services Behavioral Medicine, the Dean of Students Office, and the International Students & Scholars Office will be on hand to talk to students.

So many fond memories of watching the Marathon while a student at BU. Trying hard to hold on to those positive memories and not let the evil replace them — made much harder by finding out one of those lost was a BU student. Thoughts and prayers to the student, his/her friends and family, and the entire BU community.
RIP. To the family and friends let our community be a light of hope & recovery. Once a terrier, always a terrier. We stand with all of you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends This is just heart-breaking! Such a beautiful city violated. As a parent of a BU freshmen 16′, I am grateful that BU has kept all their students informed at all times As a parent all you want is your child to be safe.
Senseless. All my love to the family and the entirety of the Boston community.
RIP
May you rest in peace, my friend
The sadness definitely hit me harder after learning that a BU student was among the three dead. R.I.P. Hope the family will get through this difficult time.
I couldn’t hold my tears at last, when I heard that the Chinese Consulate confirmed a Chinese BU graduate student died in blasts. I was an international student, at BU, from China. I know how hard it is to live in this country as an international student. I know she must be a determinate young lady, extremely courageous, to come to a foreign country to pursue an advanced degree. I know what kind of sacrifice the young girl and her family had. I know how devastating it is for a family losing its own child. Now a young life has been taken away. This is just so heartbreaking. I know her name, as the entire Chinese community was looking for her before getting the bad news. I respect her privacy, and the will of her family to hold her name from releasing to public. I hope she can RIP. I hope her family can get through this. My thought is always with you.
CHINA AND USA ARE NOW TOGETHER IN FIGHTING AGAINST TERRORISM.
CHINA AND US HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOGETHER FIGHTING TERRORISM.
Godspeed…
My heart breaks over this loss. Prayers to the family and friends, and all those affected directly and indirectly.
I am truly sadden and heartbroken. My thoughts and prayers for these students. I know our BU community was struck hard with this tragic news, but I know our community will stand strong and offer the much needed support to these victims families.
Truly a sad day for Boston, Massacusetts, The USA and the world! The pain deepened for me when I discovered that one of the deceased went to my high school (Medford High) and the other adult went to my college (Boston University). That brought it even closer to home for me, (from and still living in MA, plus attended many Boston marathons, always watching from the finish line.) and reitterates just how vulnerable we all truly are! May God bless all those affected by this tragedy.
Oh, I am truly speechless. Please know that my thoughts are with the family and friends of this student. May you find the peace that you are looking for.
Rest in Peace. Brings it so close to home. God Bless
This is terrible.. my thoughts and prayers go out to the family R.I.P.

RIP dear friend ! My thoughts and condolences for his/her family and friends.

My heart is broken. You can’t understand the beauty and joy of the boston marathon until you watch the runners that cross the line after the 3 hour mark. These are the true heros – as are the people that wait for them to cross the line. To the beautiful soul who was lost – you were a great friend and will be missed.
Deeply saddened by this tragedy. My condolences to her family, friends and relatives. As a BU alumnus also from China, I feel very sorry to lose a nice member on BU campus. For us who are still alive, let’s cherish our lives and do good things for BU and our society.

We Mortals
We long for
the perfection
in these things
of the world;
life, certain
in its
bilateral symmetry;
generations
strung like pearls
on imagined wire.
We squint
at the sun.
We marvel
at the plaintive
syllables of songbirds.
We admire
tallness and clarity.
Feeling the vibrations
of it all beneath our feet,
we rhapsodize
distances
suggested upon
moonless nights,
daring to name
the ineffable.
We write
poems and chant
to the mysteries.
We dance
round fires
in the clearings
we have made
in the forest.
We weep
for the spirits
of fallen trees.
Facing death
we avert our eyes.
When great things
succumb
we tell
ourselves
they were never there.
Thirsty,
we lie
on our backs
allowing our mouths
to fill with rainwater,
and hope to rise
like blossoms
from the dust.

A truly heart breaking moment. May she rest in peace. My sincere condolences to her family and loved ones and those of all who were injured. I was at Marsh Chapel during 9/11 and I remember how we all came together irrespective of race or religion. I wish all my fellow Terriers peace and strength.
My deepest condolences to you, rest in peace.
Love is stronger than death even though it can’t stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can’t separate us from love. Rest in peace my dear friend.

BU and Boston hold a special place in my heart. I am so sad for our BU family.
The fans that have been lost were all a Godsend to the thousands of tired runners they cheered for. Their selfless sacrifice and words of encouragement although now stifled by a senseless act of violence will nevertheless live in our hearts forever. These wonderful people may be gone from this earth but their spirits will undoubtedly be there to motivate future generations of tired runners as they come around the corner from Hereford to Beacon. We will never be silenced by those who threaten our liberties with violence! We are too strong, too brave and too indebted to those who have died for our freedoms to allow a coward to slow us down.
I’m heartbroken. My thoughts are with her family and friends.
I can still remember all the excitement and hope I experienced first coming to BU. It’s tragic to think her experience was cut short by such a senseless act.
The entire BU community across the world feels for your loss.
I am so sorry for the loss to her family and friends. Also am sorry for the loss to the BU community. We will always remember.

I hope that BU will set up a fund for fellow students, alumni and guests to donate to help the family. She’s probably an only child, on whom the family takes immense pride, and depends for emotional, as well as practical support, until now.
She was in one of my classes, she was so beautiful and always looked so peaceful and hardworking. I am very sorry about this tragedy and my sincere thoughts and prayers go to her family, may she rest in peace
My deepest sympathy go out to her family and friends, both here and in China.
She and I come from the same town of China and also we both studied at Beijing Institute of Technology before. We have some friends in common even I don’t know her. Like most Chinese family, she’s the only child of her parents which makes me feel so sorry for her family. R.I.P Lingzi!

Such a beautiful and talented young lady vanished in this meaningless and senseless tragedy. She came all the way from China to realize her dream at the prestigious BU.

Let this tragedy remind us all, once again, life is in itself beautiful. Looking at Lingzi’s smile just a few hours ago when this happened, every “thing” that bothers me in my life just melt away…a stressful work,a person cutting the line, etc, it simply does not matter anymore. After all, I am still standing under the sun, breathing…
We never know what will happen the next day. let’s cherish life!
May Love heals every one, for body, and soul.

I am just still at loss for words…..
‘When human weakness answering to the prod of terror calls, “Help us, Oh God!” Then silence let’s the silent voice be heard, bringing it’s message like the spoken word. “Believe, believe in me, cast out your fear.
