Odile Cazenave Named Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques
Congratulations to Odile Cazenave, Professor of French, who has been named a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques. This is a high honor bestowed by the Prime Minister of France and the French Ministry of Education, recognition by French authorities for her efforts in “promotion of our language and our culture in the United States.” This international Order of knighthood was founded in 1808 by the Emperor Napoleon, and Odile becomes one of a very few scholars in the United States to be so honored.
This recognition has seldom been bestowed on literary scholars. Another exception: Jeffrey Mehlman, who was named an Officer in the same Order in 1994. Félicitations!
