Why an Endowment Matters

Since 1977, the BUWG gave one to eleven modest awards of $500 to $2,500 per year from annual gifts from BUWG members, alumni, staff and friends.

Since 2020, the BUWG Endowed Scholarship and other funds have made it possible for the BUWG to give over thirty awards of $1,500 to $5,000 per year, totaling over $120,000 annually.

Your gift today goes directly to the BUWG Endowed Scholarship Fund, increasing our annual giving power in perpetuity.

The BUWG Endowment Story

In 2016, BUWG leaders and Dr. Beverly Brown thought it was time to think bigger, to make it possible to have an even greater impact on the lives of BU graduate students.  The BUWG embarked on an endowment campaign to raise $250,000 in order to create a permanent and steady source of endowment income of $10,000 each year.  Over $100,000 was raised by December 2018 and the BUWG Endowed Scholarship Fund was formally established on March 1, 2019.

Stewarding for Greater Impact

In addition to the BUWG Endowed Scholarship Fund, the BUWG also stewards the Katherine Connor McLaughlin Fund, the Florence Engel Randall Fiction Prize, and several BU Women’s Council funds since the merger with the Boston University Women’s Council.

As of June 2023, the BUWG Endowment campaign has raised $137,436.  The BUWG is still focused on meeting the $250,000 goal and your support will build a legacy of more awards with bigger impact.
