2023-2024 Manuscript Workshop Series: Stereotypes & Scripts by Samia Hesni
- Starts: 10:00 am on Sunday, March 10, 2024
- Ends: 5:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2024
Join us for a day of discussing Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies (WGS) and Philosophy faculty member Samia Hesni’s manuscript, Stereotypes & Scripts. Please note that this is a pre-read event–all attendees must read the full manuscript in order to attend.
This book analyzes two linguistic mechanisms for expressing and entrenching stereotypes: generics and social scripts. The first half of this book is primarily about the ways stereotyping language can be used to denigrate, oppress, or otherwise harm. The second half is about how the same linguistic mechanisms that entrench stereotypes can be used to resist and undermine stereotypes.
Invited speakers include Nancy Bauer (she/her), Erin Beeghly (she/her), Leda Berio (she/her), Sally Haslanger (they/she), Em Hernandez (they/them), Eleonore Neufeld (she/her), and Guillermo del Pinal (he/him).
This event is open to BU faculty, staff, and graduate students. Registration required.
