LGBTQIA+ Scholar Series: What Does It Take to Breach the Cisheteronormativity of the Modern Language Classroom?
- Starts: 12:00 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024
- Ends: 1:15 pm on Friday, April 12, 2024
Featuring Ashley R. Moore, Assistant Professor of TESOL in the Department of Language and Literacy Education
Research continues to show that many modern language classrooms perpetuate cisheteronormativity with disastrous effects on the learning outcomes for all students (e.g., Moore, 2023; Spiegelman, 2022). But how is the enduring cisheteronormativity of these classrooms achieved? How can learners succeed in queerly breaching these norms, and what happens when they do? In this talk, Dr. Moore will share answers to these questions garnered from over a decade of solo and collaborative work pursuing more queer/trans-affirming modern language classrooms.
LGBTQIA+ Scholar Series events are open to all members of the BU community including students and alums. Please check out the list of all BU faculty talks this academic year https://www.bu.edu/thecenter/programs-services/scholar-series/
