Featuring Ellie Friedland, Associate Clinical Professor in Early Childhood Education, Wheelock College of Education & Human Development
Dr. Ellie Friedland will present her work that provides early childhood educators with knowledge and strategies to create environments that welcome and support families and staff of all sexual orientations and gender identities and children with gender expansive behaviors and/or identities. The professional development begins with the necessary personal work to open and accept knowledge and the professional responsibility to take action. The interactive workshops focus on knowledge of the spectrum of gender, accurate meanings of the ever-expanding vocabulary related to gender and sexual orientation, knowledge and strategies for implementing curriculum that includes LGBTQIA+ families, and actively counters gender stereotypes and assumptions about genders and sexual orientations. Workshops include practicing real-life situations teachers face or anticipate facing about which they have questions and concerns.
