James Mudge (1870)

James MudgeThe son and grandson of Methodist preachers, after graduating from the School of Theology, Mudge served for a number of years as a pastor in the New England Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  In 1873, he became a missionary to India.  After returning to the United States, he lectured on missions at the School of Theology and wrote a number of books on missions and spirituality.  He was editor of the Zion’s Herald from 1908 to 1912, and secretary of the New England Conference from 1889 to 1918.  He died in 1918.
