There is a kind of humor that only seminarians find funny. Seminary is a space set apart from the rest of the world. There, young people are forced to critically examine their lives and study ancient texts while simultaneously speaking to the contemporary world. In the process, they form a very tight-knit community with all kinds of inside jokes. Those students who took Hebrew together no doubt thought it very clever and funny to write about their experiences in that class after the appropriate fashion—right to left.
