David O. Poindexter
David Oldham Poindexter was born in 1929 in Hood River, Oregon. He graduated from the Boston University School of Theology, and then served as a Methodist paster for eight years. Afterward, he became involved in the National Council of Churches as the director of its broadcasting and film commission. In that role, he encouraged producers to include messages about family planning in television programming, especially in international soap operas. He died in 2018, and his obituary appeared in The New York Times.
