Abe Lincoln Baker

Abe Lincoln Baker was from Amsterdam, Ohio. He received an A.B. from Ohio Wesleyan in 1909, where he was also in the Phi Delta Sigma fraternity. Apparently, he was buried alive for some time in a coalmine and managed to live through the ordeal. His fellow students said in a tongue in cheek fashion that perhaps it was the power of love that brought him through. A limerick about their friend “Bake” reveals why:

There’s a senior sedate as a Quaker;
They say it is “Honest Abe” Baker.
A letter a day
From his love far away,
Sweetly pleads that he’ll hurry and take her.
