Edward Hersey Brewster

Edward Hersey Brewster of Holbrook, Massachusetts came from one of those distinguished families of New England. He was the ninth generation descendant of Elder William Brewster, who arrived on the Mayflower. Edward went to Columbia Preparatory School in New York, and then completed undergraduate studies at Boston University. He was also something of an oddity among his Methodist classmates—Brewster was a Baptist.

We’ve only one Baptist,—his name is Brewster,
At splashing the water we know he’s a “booster.”
He baptizes the way,
He is oft head to say,
The Apostles in Bible times “used ter.”
