Manson Edgar Baker
Manson Edgar Baker graduated from De Pauw University in 1907. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, and a member of the varsity football team. In those days, he no doubt earned a few nicknames that followed him to graduate school. They called him “Football Baker,” “Big Baker,” or perhaps most creatively, “Cyclops.” His fellow classmates remembered him as a man strong in both body and character (not to mention the fact that he was always a perfect gentleman).
There’s “Methodist Episcopal” Baker,
Conscientious is he as a Quaker.
Singing songs is his fad;
He played football like mad;
And with co-eds they say he’s a Shaker.
