As USA Gymnastics Charts a New Course, Interim Board Recruits BUSSW Adjunct Associate Professor Julie Springwater as One of Six Independent Directors

May 14, 2018 — The USA Gymnastics organization moves forward with steps to ensure its commitment to athlete safety by appointing six new independent directors to its interim board, including Julie Springwater, BU School of Social Work adjunct associate professor and macro chair. The board oversees USA Gymnastics’ governance on behalf of its members.

Springwater brings a macro social work background that includes child welfare policy, workforce development, positive youth development, and human service agency leadership. In addition to her work at BUSSW, Springwater is also the chair of governance for the Child Welfare League of America; executive director of the New England Association of Child Welfare Commissioners and Directors, housed in Boston’s Judge Baker Children’s Center; and advisory board member for the Massachusetts Association for Families.

USA Gymnastics announced the incoming independent Board members while emphasizing its commitment to athlete safety, including adopting and vigorously enforcing the USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Policy.
