Accreditation & Competencies

The Council on Social Work Education

The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is the accrediting organization for baccalaureate or master of social work programs in the U.S.  Accreditation by the CSWE’s Commission on Accreditation (COA) indicates that the program meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of program quality evaluated through a peer-review process.

BUSSW is a nationally accredited social work program.

Learning Outcomes

All CSWE programs measure and report MSW student learning outcomes. Students are assessed on their mastery of the competencies that comprise the accreditation standards of the CSWE. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice which all social workers are expected to master during their professional training. A measurement benchmark is set by the social work programs for each competency. An assessment score at or above that benchmark is considered by the program to represent mastery of that particular competency. Our most recent Learning Outcome results can be found below.

Competencies

The CSWE mandates that all Master of Social Work programs develop and implement an explicit curriculum that prepares graduates for practice by mastering a set of nine core competencies.

BUSSW is a sustaining sponsor of the Grand Challenges for Social Work.
