Ian M. Johnson

Through mixed-method, interprofessional, community-based translational research approaches, Dr. Johnson’s research aims to serve older people experiencing homelessness and housing precarity, and the health and social service professionals who work with them.

Ian focuses on creating, improving, and sustaining housing and community-based interventions that promote housing and health justice in mid to later life in three ways: (a) improving direct service provision with older people experiencing homelessness, (b) increasing knowledge and communication between safety-net healthcare and homeless response systems, and (c) addressing spatial injustices in urban public places to ensure equitable aging in community.

As a community-engaged researcher, Ian’s recent projects have involved partnership with LGBTQ+ older adults, staff and users of an urban public library, and a palliative care street medicine team. Ian maintains a part-time clinical practice with older adults and their care networks.
