Professor Phillipe Copeland Launches Podcast Centered on Turning Social Issues Into Action
At Boston University School of Social Work, difficult conversations are part of the curriculum. In his classrooms, Professor Phillipe Copeland regularly guides students through complex topics like racism, trauma, and violence which can feel overwhelming in both scope and impact.
But over the years, one question has surfaced again and again: What can we do?
This spring, Copeland is taking that question beyond the classroom with the launch of his new podcast, From Issues to Action, debuting May 1, 2026.
The monthly podcast will highlight conversations with scholars, leaders, artists, and everyday people making a difference. Copeland’s goal is to shift the focus from problems to solutions, sharing stories of hope and real-world impact. Episodes will explore topics like inequality, violence, trauma, and health, showing listeners how action is possible, both in communities and individually.
“Stories about what the good people are doing—and the difference they’re making—can be therapeutic,” Copeland says. “They remind us that change is possible.”
With From Issues to Action, he invites everyone, from students and alumni to policymakers and the public, to move beyond awareness and toward meaningful action.
