Celebrate a Recovery Milestone
Recognize a BU community member’s recovery milestone.
Celebrating important milestones in a loved one’s recovery journey can help recognize their hard work, strength, and resilience.
Recovery milestones can include marking a certain amount of time in recovery or acknowledging another accomplishment, such as starting or completing an academic program. Milestones can be “big” or “small”, what matters is that it’s important to the person in recovery. Recovery is not a linear process, so someone may celebrate the same milestone more than once.
How to recognize a milestone
You can recognize someone’s milestone through a small, thoughtful action that will be meaningful to them. Some ideas include:
-
- Writing a heartfelt letter
- Giving a meaningful gift
- Offering to attend a recovery event or meeting
- Recording a congratulatory video message
- Starting a new tradition on their milestone date
- Giving them a personalized token to mark their milestone, such as a recovery milestone ribbon from the BU Recovery Community.
Request a Recovery Milestone Ribbon
The BU Recovery Community offers recovery milestone ribbons to people in recovery who are a part of the BU Community (students, faculty, staff, or alumni with a US mailing address). If you yourself are an amazing person in recovery, please request a ribbon to celebrate an upcoming milestone!
To request a recovery milestone ribbon, please complete the request form. If you are submitting a request to recognize someone else, please be mindful of whether this would be a welcome keepsake.
Each recipient will be contacted to ensure they would like to receive this acknowledgement before it is sent, and it will include the name of the individual who submitted the request.
