Health Insurance Requirement

Boston University policy and Massachusetts law require that students have health insurance coverage while enrolled at BU.

This ensures that students have healthcare—and are financially protected—if they experience illness or injury while pursuing their studies.

BU automatically enrolls certain student populations in the Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) under this requirement. This includes:

• Full-time students
• Certified full-time students
• 3/4 time students (taking 9 credits or more per semester)
• International students
