Tuberculosis (TB) Compliance

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious and contagious illness caused by a bacteria.

While it usually attacks the lungs, it can affect any part of the body including the kidney, spine, and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal. For these reasons, BU has the following TB compliance measures.

Required populations

Regardless of whether you’ve had a TB vaccine—certain student populations must meet TB compliance depending on their area of study, country of origin, and past history with TB:

TB Testing at SHS

If TB testing is not available in your country, or you are unable to complete it before arriving at BU, you can make an appointment to be tested at SHS.

  1. Log into Patient Connect
  2. Select the option, Primary Care
  3. Select Ask a nurse a question and request an appointment for TB testing

A note about cost: For students enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), there is no cost for the TB blood test – it is covered by the insurance plan. For students enrolled in a different plan, we recommend you call your insurance provider to find out the cost for TB testing with SHS and our partner, LabCorp.
