Events

We collaborate with departments and student organizations on campus to foster individual and collective action to reduce sexual and interpersonal violence. One way we do this is by sponsoring and partnering on signature events that happen each school year.

Fall Welcome Event

SARP’s Fall Welcome Event invites students to meet our staff, learn about community resources, prevent violence, and learn how to get help. The event creates a welcoming environment that minimizes the stigma associated with talking about trauma out loud. The BU community can engage in thoughtful conversation with SARP-trained student ambassadors while participating in a fun activity.

I Will Walk With You

Started by a BU student, this walk shows support for survivors during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and kicks off Sexual Assault Awareness Week. SARP ambassadors lead the way and spray paint the path from the SARP office to the rest of the campus, encouraging passing students to participate.

Denim and Donuts – Denim Day Observation

Denim Day challenges the victim-blaming of survivors of sexual violence. All over the world, people wear jeans to support survivors and educate the community. SARP observes this day by partnering with groups on campus such as the Center for Gender, Sexuality, & Activism, Residence Life, and First Year Success to incentivize students to think critically about how they prevent victim blaming while learning the history behind this demonstration.

Incarcerated Survivor Letter-Writing

The Incarcerated Survivor Letter-Writing Initiative (ISLW) is a monthly collaboration  between SARP and the BU Prison Outreach Initiative. Originally launched by SARP Ambassador Hannah Zobair (CAS’22) in 2020, ISLW creates opportunities for students to support incarcerated survivors of domestic and sexual violence through handwritten letters. By fostering human connection and challenging the isolation faced by survivors, ISLW provides a meaningful, concrete way for the BU community to show solidarity and advocate for change.
