Alcohol & Drug Prevention Training
All first-year and transfer students must complete an alcohol and drug prevention training, AlcoholEdu, as part of BU’s commitment to health and wellbeing. Students who do not complete the training will become non-compliant with the University and withheld from using the course planner and registering for classes during their second semester.
Training Deadlines
- Students who begin classes in the Fall semester will become non-compliant on October 15 if they have not completed the training
- Students who begin classes in the Spring semester will become non-compliant on March 15 if they have not completed the training
Why is this Required?
We recognize that not all students choose to use alcohol or other drugs. However, everyone plays a role in creating a safer campus for all. This AlcoholEdu training will share important information to help you make informed decisions, learn how to help others, and become familiar with resources and support services for substance use and recovery.
If you have concerns about completing the training due to its content, you can request a confidential waiver.
How to Complete the Training
You’ll receive an email when it’s time to complete Part 1 of the training. Look for an email from “BU Wellness Courses” at the following times:
- Fall-start students will receive an email in mid-August
- Spring-start students will receive an email in mid-January
- Summer-start students will receive an email in late May
You will need to have your BU login and Kerberos password to log into the training.
You will receive another email when it’s time to complete Part 2 of the training, about six weeks after you complete Part 1.
How to Check if You Met the Requirement
You can confirm that you completed training and met your Compliance requirement on the MyBU Student Portal:
- Log into MyBU Student Portal
- Go to My Health & Wellbeing on the top menu bar
- Select Check Compliance Status on the Quick Links list

Tips for Completing the Training
- Use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Explorer, Safari, iOS, or Android to avoid technical problems.
- You don’t have to complete the training all at once. Each section ends with a “Next” button. Click this button before you close the browser to save your progress.
- You can change your preferred language for certain videos.
- Closed captions and content narration are available.
- Your survey responses are private. BU does not see students’ individual answers. Only the student body’s responses as a whole are used to inform programming and policies.
- Take care of yourself with breaks, privacy, or by being near others.
Having Technical Problems?
- First make sure that your browser is up-to-date.
- If you cannot view the navigation buttons, you may be zoomed in too much on your screen. To zoom out on a PC or Chromebook, hit control 0 (zero). On a Mac, hit command 0 (zero).
