Student Housing
Students are currently housed in the Tonghe apartment buildings located outside of the Fudan University campus. Students live in comfortable and spacious apartments and have their own private bedrooms. They share kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms with their housemates. The apartments are safe and the entrance gates to the compound are guarded at all times. Safety codes of our housing meet the rigid standards of Boston University.
The Tonghe apartments (interiors pictured below) are not far from the Fudan campus where classes are taught. Students can either walk or take a short bus ride to their classroom buildings. The nearest subway station is within a 15 minute walk of the apartments. The neighborhood around the apartments and campus has many restaurants, bars, cafes, and convenience stores to meet students’ needs. Access to the city center is through a 30 minute subway ride. The area of Wujiaochang near the Fudan campus is a vibrant commercial center featuring shopping and entertainment facilities.

Close Food/Restaurants
Living in a university area has many perks. Food prices are usually much lower and more in variety than the downtown area. There are many noodle shops, Korean restaurants, Sichuan food places, and local BBQ right outside of your Tonghe apartments. You can eat cheaply from 6 kuai noodles to 30 kuai for a nice family-style sit down meal. The Fudan campus cafeteria is another option. Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., and dinner is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can visit the cafeteria once you have your Fudan ID card.
Kosher and vegetarian options:
Though many food dishes in China may contain pork, there are many Muslim restaurants in Shanghai that do not serve pork. Tofu, green vegetables, and noodles are very abundant in China and students usually start to prefer eating more vegetables as the semester goes on. There are many vegetarian food options in Shanghai.
Local Shopping Area
Wujiaochang 五角场 is your nearby local shopping area located about 15 minutes walking distance or 5 minutes by public bus. There you will find stores and shops that you are familiar with in the US like Walmart, H&M, Zara, and many food chain restaurants like Pizza Hut, KFC, and McDonalds. Located within Wujiaochang is a Shanghai First Food Mall 上海第一食品; on the second floor is a food court of local Shanghai foods like soup dumplings, fried buns, spicy and sour noodles, and much more.
