Captain Jim Morrow, USN
Professor of Naval Science

Captain Jim Morrow, a native of Ohio, graduated from Ohio University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. He received his commission through the NUPOC program in April 1999. Captain Morrow served on four fast-attack submarines, a guided missile submarine, and a strategic missile submarine. As a junior Officer onboard USS MAINE (SSBN 741) (GOLD) home ported in Kings Bay, GA, he served as Electrical Officer, Reactor Controls Assistant, and Communications Officer during five strategic deterrent patrols. He next served as a split-tour junior Officer aboard PCU TEXAS (SSN 775) in Newport News, VA with focus on reactor and propulsion plant preparation during the ship’s new construction phase.
CAPT Morrow completed his department head tour as Navigation-Operations Officer onboard USS SANTA FE (SSN 763) home ported in Kittery, ME and Pearl Harbor, HI, where he completed a Panama Canal transit, interfleet transfer, and one Western Pacific deployment. As Executive Officer on USS NORTH CAROLINA (SSN 777), home ported in Pearl Harbor, HI, he completed a Western Pacific deployment. Captain Morrow’s first submarine command tour was USS NEW MEXICO (SSN 779), home ported in Kittery, ME and Norfolk, VA where he completed a two-year CNO maintenance availability followed by 8 months of operations up and down the East Coast of the United States. His last command tour was the guided missile submarine USS MICHIGAN (SSGN 727) (BLUE) where he completed two Western Pacific Deployments. USS MAINE, USS SANTA FE, and USS MICHIGAN (twice) were awarded the Battle Efficiency “E” during his tours.
Prior to reporting to the Boston Consortium NROTC as the Professor of Naval Science, he previously served ashore as an in-residence student at the United States Naval War College, Operations Officer at Submarine Squadron 3, Executive Officer and Tactical Exercise Analysis Lead at the DEVRON-12 and UWDC Tactical Analysis Group, Deputy Commander at Submarine Squadron 4, Senior Evaluator on the SUBLANT Combat Readiness Evaluation Team, and Senior Member of the USFFC Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board. Captain Morrow earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and completed Joint Professional Military Education with a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.
Captain Morrow assumed the position as Professor of Naval Science for the Boston Consortium on July 16, 2025.
Relieved Commanding Officers
Captain Jack Houdeshell, USN
Captain Jack Houdeshell, a native of Iowa, received a NROTC scholarship after completing the BOOST program. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics.
Captain Houdeshell has served on five fast-attack submarines. As a junior officer onboard USS HOUSTON (SSN 713) home ported in San Diego, CA, he served as Torpedo Division Officer, Damage Control Assistant, and Assistant Combat Systems Officer during two Western Pacific Deployments. He next served as the Navigation-Operations Officer onboard USS TOLEDO (SSN 769) home ported in Groton CT completing a Mediterranean and Central Command deployments. In addition, during his tour TOLEDO was surge deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As Executive Officer on USS MONTPELIER (SSN 765), home ported in Norfolk, VA, he completed a Central Command deployment. Captain Houdeshell’s first command tour was USS DALLAS (SSN 700), home ported in Groton, CT, where he completed a Central Command Deployment. He relieved temporarily on USS SPRINGFIELD (SSN 761), home ported in Groton, CT. His last command tour was again on USS DALLAS where he completed his fifth Central Command deployment. USS HOUSTON, USS MONTPELIER, and USS DALLAS were awarded the Battle Efficiency “E” while he was serving onboard.
Prior to reporting to the Boston Consortium NROTC as the Professor of Naval Science, he previously served ashore as Submarine Officer Advanced Course Director at Naval Submarine School, Deputy J-2 for Innovation and Development Joint Forces Command, Deputy Commander for Submarine Squadron FOUR, Commanding Officer Naval Submarine School, the Chief of Staff for the Undersea Warfighting Development Center, and Commanding Officer Submarine Learning Center.
Captain Houdeshell earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering Acoustics from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and completed Joint Professional Military Education via the Command and General Staff Course in Leavenworth, KS, and the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA.
Captain Houdeshell assumed the position as Professor of Naval Science for the Boston Consortium on March 21, 2022 and was relieved at Faneuil Hall on July 16, 2025.
