ROTC

Through the Division of Military Education, Boston University is proud to host four branches of the armed forces of the United States. Army, Navy (including Marine Corps), and Air Force maintain reserve officer training programs at the University. The University is committed to providing high quality academic preparation to future military officers and to supporting the uniformed personnel who are assigned to ROTC units to provide guidance and instruction to cadets and midshipmen in the military components of the ROTC programs offered by the three services.

Boston University is an internationally recognized private research university that places a strong emphasis on the quality of teaching and the engagement of its students in the world. It is recognized at Boston University that the freedom of inquiry that undergirds research and scholarship is a subset of political liberty, a liberty that is secured by the committed service of a military subject to civilian command.

In addition to U.S. Government-provided ROTC benefits, Boston University awards generous On-Campus Room and Board Grants to BU ROTC students who receive full-tuition federal ROTC four-year scholarships. The amount of the BU Room and Board Grant covers standard room and dining plan costs (an approximate value of $19,000/year as of 2024).

The BU Room and Board Grants are renewable for up to 8 semesters. Students receiving the grants are required to reside in BU on-campus housing. For a full list of scholarship benefits, click here
