Social Media Community Guidelines

Having clearly defined community guidelines and moderation policies is key to establishing what is and what is not accepted on Boston University’s social profiles. To encourage an engaging, positive conversation, we ask that all users on our social media accounts treat each other with respect and adhere to the guidelines outlined for the main University social media channels, including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Weibo, and WeChat. All affiliated Boston University channels should feel encouraged to include these guidelines below on their pages, or provide a link to the PDF document.

Boston University welcomes comments on this page. Just a few guidelines to help us manage our community and identify and minimize spam:

– If promoting a program or event, please identify your BU connection.

– By all means, share your participation in community events, but please don’t use the page to ask for money or promote services, products, or entities, even if it’s on behalf of a worthy cause. By the same token, it’s fine to share if you’re running for political office, but please do not promote your campaign.

– We welcome constructive criticism of Boston University and its efforts. Please do not, however, use posts to harass or threaten other users or to spread false or misleading information. Posts that violate the social media platform’s policies, disclose information that is confidential under law, incite imminent lawless action, or violate intellectual property rights may be removed at any time. Duplicative comments by the same user may also be removed.

Page administrators reserve the right to remove any content or user that violates these guidelines.
