Dr. Melissa K. Holt is the associate dean for faculty affairs and an associate professor in counseling psychology at BU Wheelock. Her research focuses on adolescents’ experiences with victimization and identity-based harassment in school, the home, and community, with a particular emphasis on peer victimization. Within this line of research, she has evaluated the overlap among violence exposures, factors that promote resilience among youth exposed to violence, disparities in victimization and its correlates, and the efficacy of school-based prevention programs. Dr. Holt’s recent research has emphasized victimization based on identity, specifically with respect to gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, and race/ethnicity. Dr. Holt is a licensed psychologist, with expertise in counseling clients with histories of trauma and in treating individuals diagnosed with eating disorders.
