Apostolos Ampountolas

Apostolos Ampountolas, Ph.D., CQF, FHEA, is Associate Professor of Hospitality Finance and Chair of Graduate Programs at Boston University’s School of Hospitality Administration. A scholar of forecasting and financial econometrics, he studies how uncertainty shapes demand, prices, investment risk, and managerial decisions. His work is grounded in a central premise: uncertainty cannot be eliminated, but it can be measured, forecast, priced, and managed.

Drawing on econometrics, machine learning, and quantitative finance, Dr. Ampountolas examines hotel demand, pricing optimization, revenue management, booking cancellations, real estate investment trusts, financial-market volatility, cryptocurrencies, political uncertainty, and sustainable finance. He provides expert commentary on developments in these areas, including market volatility, election-related financial uncertainty, and the performance of REITs and the hospitality sector.

His scholarship has appeared in leading journals across hospitality, tourism, and finance, including Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Tourism Economics, Finance Research Letters, Research in International Business and Finance, and the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance. His research and commentary have been featured by CBS News and Business Insider.

Before entering academia, Dr. Ampountolas spent nearly two decades in the international travel and hospitality industry, advancing to senior commercial leadership at the Kuoni Group, where he directed pricing, contracting, and market-sourcing strategies across European markets. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Exeter and a Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF) from the CQF Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
