POLICE CRIME ALERT: BICYCLE THEFTS
Dear Boston University Community,
We want to inform you about recent incidents of bicycle and scooter theft near campus, which may impact members of our community. Below are the details:
Incidents: During the month of September 2024, twenty-six bicycle and scooter thefts were reported to BUPD, many occurring when bikes were secured with cable or chain locks at outdoor bike racks. We urge all community members to take extra precautions:
- Use secured bike rooms or cages whenever possible.
- Invest in a high-quality steel U-lock or similar robust lock.

Summary of Facts: Police are investigating if these incidents are related. BUPD is alerting the community to this situation for your safety and awareness. BUPD is asking the community to call us at 617-353-2121 immediately if you observe any suspicious behavior.
Suspect: The suspect in these cases have not been identified.
Follow-up: The Boston University Police Detective Unit is actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding these incidents and is encouraging anyone who may have information to come forward and contact the Boston University Police at 617-353-2121.
